Claysburg's 2018 Derby Dash Photos and Information

Claysburg’s 2018 Derby Dash 5K and Walk went off without a hitch.  The weather was beautiful, but the crowd was sparse.  Apparently this time of year we are running into more and more conflicts with other events from softball to baseball to proms to just plain busy schedules.  Our friends who were part of the Cove Challenge Series during the past three years had cancelled altogether because of not pulling any sizable crowd.

From a student standpoint, there were few in attendance, and it cannot be a money issue since all students run for free.  We would like to thank our sponsors, the groups who did the wellness displays, the Claysburg Fire Company for policing the road, the Greenfield Township police, all the workers, volunteers, etc  and especially Brian and Sarah Sell for travelling from Lititz, PA to be part of our race as they have done in the past.  Brian is a former US Olympian from the Northern Bedford School District area.  We appreciated them taking time out of their busy schedule to be there.

The good news is that although a small crowd, financially we turned over $1,750 profit to support the CK Backpack Program.  Thank you for all your help and support from everyone.  For next year, we are looking at a change of date to later in the year.  If you have any suggestions on how to draw a crowd, please let us know.  We think that everyone’s lives are so busy, and they can only squeeze so much activity onto their plate.

The top three winners in the female 5K category were:  1st - Patti Caswell of Tyrone, PA, 2nd -  Sarah Sell of Lititz, PA  and 3rd - Christine Hess of Martinsburg.

The top three winners in the male category were:  1st - Andrew Hess of Martinsburg, PA, 2nd - Adam Diflaviano of Duncansville, PA and 3rd - Nathaniel Scritchfield of Hyndman, PA.

Proceeds of this year’s events of $1,750 went to the Claysburg Backpack program.
